Entender a plasticidade morfofuncional do músculo com especial enfase para os tecidos musculares esquelético e cardíaco. O grupo também está interessado em investigar o papel de certas vias intracelulares (calcineurina e mTOR) nas adaptações dos tecidos musculares à demanda aumentada. São utilizados modelos de solicitação funcional tais como desuso/sobrecarga e hormonais como o hormônio tiroideano além de lesão muscular. Além das modificações histológicas, também estão interessados em determinar modificações moleculares dos tecidos musculares frente às demandas supracitadas com enfase na expressão de genes músculo específicos. A realização destes objetivos contribuirá para a melhor compreensão dos processos adaptativos do tecido muscular e também tem potencial para contribuição no desenho de estratégias terapêuticas futuras em que vias hipertróficas seriam moduladas por drogas específicas.
